Who hasn’t stood in the shower and tried to perform a great rendition of their favourite song? Who doesn’t find themselves humming or singing along to the radio in the car? Who hasn’t thrashed along on the air guitar whilst listening to their mp3 player?

Singing is a wonderful expression of human emotion, a powerful and moving way to release sentiments and passions, whether it is joy, sorrow, or anything in between. Music encompasses all and is something that we can all relate with.

To sing, whether in the shower, as an aspiring artist or a professional, we can all take on board some singing voice tips. There is always room for improvement, so the maxim goes, and many are the conditions which can conspire to bring down your singing skills.

So if you want to enhance or simply maintain your vocal skills, there are things which you can do. The first thing would be learning how to extend the range of your vocals, beyond the natural ability. This is a basic step of development once you are comfortable with your natural singing voice and range.

Learning how to relax is one of the understated singing voice tips. Being free of any stresses is vital, not only for your own comfort, but for the effect it will have on your voice. Any tension in the shoulders, the chest or the neck can impair the output and projection of the voice. Good airflow is essential to natural, controlled singing.

Don’t forget to warm up and warm down, as well as exercise those vocal chords, breathing techniques and lips on a regular basis. Practice will allow you to improve all the time, and experimenting with scales and ranges of notes will further push the boundaries of your talents. Hum, keep the larynx in good, stress free order, never strain and keep well hydrated.

When singing, blend resonances, and work to find the perfect fusion between “head” and “chest” voices, the different ranges which feel as if they are emanating from the lower “chest” or upper “head” ranges. Work hard to overcome the bridge between the different registers to enhance your vocals, and not only will it improve your range, but will allow you to add your own naturally artistic flair to your own performances.
